World Wetlands Day 2007
National Workshop on "Conserving Nepalese Wetlands: Sharing Experiences and Building Partnership”
Nepal River Conservation Trust (NRCT) in association with Environmentalists' Association of Nepal (EAN), National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Sustainable Tourism Network (STN), Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Department of National Park and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) of government of Nepal organised a National Workshop on "Conserving Nepalese Wetlands: Sharing Experiences and Building Partnership” to mark the World Wetlands Day 2007 in Nepal.
The major objective of the workshop is to “establish a COMMON PLATFORM of academia, research and development organisations, media, business houses and civil society to share findings on scientific, economic and socio-cultural aspects of the Nepalese wetlands, formulate a water and wetlands conservation ALLIANCE of like minded organisations and individuals, CHANGE the conventional conservation mind-sets and finally INTERNALISING the benefits of environmental services to better the people’s livelihood.
The workshop was addressed by senior journalist Mr. Bhairav Risal (Former Chairman - NEFEJ), Dr. Ananda Raj Joshi (President - EAN and Former DG SACEP), Mr. Anil Chitrakar (Director – ECCA and Board Member - NRCT), Mr. Sameer Karki (Director of Natural Resources Programme - Winrock International), Mr. Tek Jung Mahat (ICIMOD and Former Coordinator – NRCT), Dr. Sanjay Khanal (Head –Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Kathmandu University), Dr. Bhupendra Devkota (Head - College of Applied Science), Mr. Naresh Rimal (Chairman - SEEP Water), Mr. Santosh Kafle (Lecturer – Tri-chandra College) and Mr. Sudeep Devkota (Lecturer - KITS College). Mr. Achyut Dahal, coordinator of NRCT welcomed the mass of about one hundred participants representing different I/NGOs, academia, research institutions, community organization, CBOs, youth initiatives and clubs.
The event was organised in association with following environment related organisations, actively engaged in Nepal.
